Edmond Malaj was born on July 27, 1973, in Shkodër. He completed his studies in German Philology in 2001 and in Translation Studies in 2005 at the Institutes of German Studies of Luigj Gurakuqi University and the University of Graz.
In 2007, he earned his doctorate (PhD) in German Philology from the Institute of German Studies at the University of Graz. In November 2009, he completed an additional degree in Religious Studies at the Faculty of Catholic Theology of the same university, with a focus on the three monotheistic religions: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Prof. Asoc. Dr. E. Malaj is currently a scientific researcher at the Institute of History (Department of the Middle Ages) of the Academy of Sciences of Albania in Tirana. He also serves as an external lecturer in the Department of German Language at the Faculty of Foreign Languages of the University of Tirana.
