Description
Fotona d.d. (joint stock company) is continuing the activity, first introduced into local industry by the Laboratory for Technical Physics of Iskra R&D Centre. Technologies and special know-how found in Fotona today are those that are required for the applied research, development, design and manufacturing of electro optical devices, systems, applications and those components that cannot be outsourced. Fotona presently employs 250 workers. Their structure reflects the high level of technology of Fotona’s products. Almost 30% of the workforce hold various university degrees, 65% have completed high school or adequate professional education. The most common specialties include electronic and mechanical engineering, physics and economics. Most of the products marketed by Fotona are developed, designed and manufactured in the company. The core technologies are solid state lasers and transmission of signals through optical fibers. On the component level, the company has specific know-how and equipment, needed to manufacture precise mechanical parts, laser quality optical parts made of glass or metal and vacuum thin film coatings. On the level of subassemblies, the company is able to develop, design and manufacture optical subassemblies, laser modules, optical fiber and cable connecting parts, electronic circuit boards and mechanical subassemblies. Electro optical systems for medical, industrial, communication and defense applications represent the majority of Fotona’s production program. On the system level, the company has adequate specialists and equipment to be able to develop, design, manufacture and maintain its products and to develop and verify some of the applications. The know-how enables development and design of electronic, optical and mechanical interfaces, servostabilising assemblies, installation and application of satellite, wire and radio communication modules. Main applications are characterised by the use of visible and infrared light in dentistry, dermatology, special alloy welding, measurements, surveillance and communication. Special software mastered by Fotona include ballistics, surveying, precise control of laser devices and communication systems. Following the tradition of the production program that in the past was predominantly defense oriented, Fotona has both the experience and equipment for specific measurement and for testing of the equipment made in the company and of similar devices made by other companies, in accordance with the most demanding defense, medical and telecommunication standards. The quality assurance is organized and certified according to ISO 9001 and ISO 9002 standards.
