Description
Cinkarna is one of the oldest Slovenian factories. It was established in the year 1873. The Austro-Hungarian Empire, in line with its economic policy of the time, decided to build the zinc foundry works in Celje. Consequently, the extraction of zinc from sulphurus ore was initiated, and it had soon prompted the production of sulphuric acid. This was the beginning of the chemical industry development. The strategic decision to start developing chemical industry and devote increased attention to the protection of nature resulted in abandoning the production of zinc metal from zinc concentrates. This meant the alteration of strategy and saw the commencement of processing metal brought at the market in to the well-established zinc-based products: titanium-zinc sheet plates, zinc alloys, zinc wire, zinc anodes and roof covering plates. The turning point in the development of Cinkarna, that is the change from metallurgic to mostly chemical production, occurred in 1973 (at the centennial anniversary of Cinkarna) with the construction of titanium dioxide plant. Today, the production of titanium dioxide is the most important business branch of the company. Production programs Cinkarna has an extensive product range. The Company presently manufactures approximately 2000 different products in the chemical, metal processing and graphic industrial branches. The paramount and the leading products is the titanium dioxide pigment. It is followed by zinc-copper-titanium sheets, printing plates, and plasters, powder coatings, and other products. Organization Management General Administration and Technical support Titanium Dioxide Metallurgy Chemical Sector Celje Chemical Sector Mozirje Graphic Sector Veflon Maintenance and Energy Sector In the year 1997 Cinkarna completed the ownership restructuring process and become a joint-stock company. Diverse production programs and business activities are organized in business sectors and joint administrative services.
