University of Ljubljana, Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television

The Academy of Theater, Radio, Film and Television, founded in 1945, offers undergraduate and post-graduate courses in theater acting, theater, radio, film and television directing, and dramaturgy. The Academy is a part of the University of Ljubljana. In addition to courses, its range of activities also includes artistic and scientific research in the fields of theatre, radio, film and television. The research program is the responsibility of the Center for Theater and Film (CTF), which cooperates with related institutions at home and abroad and is in charge of the extensive documentation (book, video, and audio libraries, and the collection of iconographic motives). As a research institution, the Academy of Theater, Radio, Film and Television is oriented towards planned and systematic scientific study of the specificities and historical development of theater, film and related visual arts through systematic methodological and terminological approach. The Academy therefore focuses on a relatively narrow area of the humanities that is quite specific in comparison with other related disciplines. Since the Academy is the only institution in Slovenia dedicated to theater and film studies, its research work is of "national interest" in many respects. The researchers thus pay special attention to the issues related to the historical development of theater and film in Slovenia.
