Description
The origins of Slovenian National Building and Civil Engineering Institute (ZAG Ljubljana) go back to 1949, when the original Building and Civil Engineering Institute was founded. On 1953, the Building and Civil Engineering Institute was re-established as an independently financed economic entity, and renamed as the Institute for Testing and Research in Materials and Structures (ZRMK Ljubljana). On 1994, ZRMK Ljubljana was reorganized into two new legal entities: a public research institute named ZAG Ljubljana, now the Slovenian National Building and Civil Engineering Institute, and a public institute named the Civil Engineering Institute ZRMK (Gradbeni inštitut ZRMK), which has been transformed into a non-governmental market-oriented enterprise. ZAG Ljubljana is an independent, impartial and non-profit organization, which fulfils all the requirements of the EEC Council Directive No. 89/106 regarding approval bodies which carry out the testing and attestation of conformity of construction products. It carries out its work in the following fields: materials, building physics, structures, geotechnics and the traffic infrastructure, metrology. ZAG Ljubljana performs: - fundamental and applied research in the fields of building materials and structures, - testing in accredited laboratories (SA, SWEDAC, PTB-DKD), - attestation of conformity and certification of building materials, products and executed works, - pre-competitive development in the fields of building materials and structures, - development of new methods of testing and measurement, - studies, tests, measurements, surveys, monitoring, analyses, and technical consultancy in the fields of structures, transport devices, traffic infrastructure, the external and internal building environment, thermal insulation and waterproofing techniques, - calibration and attestation of measures, standards and reference materials, - control, calibration and attestation of the conformity of measuring devices, apparatus, testing training of research and technical staff in particular technical fields, - participation in the preparation of technical codes and standards.
