Description
The Centre specialises in the development and modification of yarn and thread for cotton spinning. It operates under the auspices of the Predilnica Litija cotton mill, which has a 113-year tradition in cotton milling, manufacturing thread and yarn for the following purposes: decorative fabrics, technical fabrics, flat knitwear, circular knitting and fashion wear. Most of the development is directed at the modification of raw materials for yarn and the modification of technical procedures to keep in pace with the demands of the European weaving and textile industry. Some of the more important yarns developed in recent years are: - Crepe yarns composed of cotton, viscose and a composite of other fibres - Shangtung yarn and fancy yarn with naps. - Yarns consisting of an intimate composite of ginned cotton and polyamide fibres - Yarns for flat knitting consisting of a composite of natural fibres and synthetic fibres - Elastic threads - Woven elastomer threads - 100% flax yarn using kuralon. The Centre for Yarn and Thread Development employs 16 researchers who integrate their knowledge and apply it to the manufacturing process. Of these, 10 are experts in the field of textile technology, one each in the fields of chemistry, mechanical engineering, electronics and labour organisation, and two in economics.
