Abstract
For Slovenia as a small and open economy, an intensive integration into international economy is an absolute necessity. At the same time, international economy is a given variable to this economy, to which it needs to constantly adjust. Because of dynamic worldwide internationalisation processes, Slovenia is faced with a number of challenges, at theoretical, economic policy and enterprise (micro) level. Relevance of the project, which concentrates on foreign direct investment, globalisation and regional integration, services and technology development, reflects itself in defining the role of internationalisation in the development of small, open economies in the process of European Union integration, and in policy suggestions in the field of internationalisation.
