Abstract
The »Slovenian public opinion project 1998« and its empirical phase - wich was performed with two standardised questionaires and two represenative samples of adult citizens of Slovenija (SJM)/1 and SJM 98/2) - included the operationalizations of the following surveys and topics: 1.Longitudinal survey SJM (Slovenian Public Opinion). This research project enables us to study the changes in attitudes and opinions of the people regarding the most important individual and social problems. Within the SJM survey framework we have operationalized and measured the so called »mirror of public opinion«: this is the comparison of living conditions (circumstances) during the period of 5 years; we have observed the attitudes on the role of government, and also the change of attitudes towards the social role of the state; we have also measured attitudes towards social security, social inequality, social stratification, minimal standard of living, satisfaction with the material conditions etc. 2.The longitudinal survey also included a new weave of items measuring values. We have replicated the selected operationalisation of this topics (the evaluation of the conceptions) 3. Our cross-national research projects included survey on electoral sistems. We replicated a selected number of indicators of attitudes towards political institutions, especially towards political parties. 4. Undestandig of the recent history. After analyzing of the results of the first weave, fielded in 1995, we performed the methodological evaluation and selected a subset of indicators for SJM replication. 5.The Book and the Media. We also replicated a selected subset of indicators on book-reading habits and on media; this set of data is comparable with the results of SJM84 6.We have operationalized and surveyed a Social Inequality module, ISSP, 1999- a cross-national research on social inequality. The module investigates respondents'' attitudes on the possibilities of advancement, income differeces, the perceptions of actual and ideal earnings for selected group of preofessions, inequality in the field of health services and education, conflicts between social groups, criteria for rewarding work effort, extent of social diferences, selfplacing of respondents on the social scale, their evaluatoin of slovene society etc. 7.We have accomplished the operationalisation of Religion, ISSP, 1998 – a cross-national research project. The survey investigated the following phenomena: attitudes towards happiness, opinions about the role of the state in the area of social security, division of gender roles, abortion, division of family roles, confidence in people and social institutions, attitudes towards church role in the pastoral and political field, influence of the religiosity and of church in the society, personal religiosity, ortodoxy, statements obout God, religious orientations and religious practices, etc. 8.We simultaneously supplement our basic empirical research work with methodological researches and analyses. The most visible expression of this activity is the book of S.Uhan: Prava in neprava mnenja, Znanstvena knjiznica FDV, Ljubljana, 1998. 9.Within the longitudinal framework of the SJM survey (1968 – 1998) in 1998 we have concentrated on organizing and evaluating the data of our empirical surveys between 1990 and 1998. The result of this effort is the inclusion of SJM data into the Arhiv druzboslovnih podatkov FDV for all 30 years and edition od the second book: Toš, N. et all: Vrednote v prehodu I/II. Two books together include cca 2000 pages; the second book will be published in spring 1999.
