Abstract
The objective of the project comprising lexicological, grammatical and dialectal research is the study of current issues concerning the Slovenian language, and the preparation of basic works in Slovenian linguistics. The research project comprises the studies on contemporary standard language, dialectology, historical development of Slovenian and on technical language.
The Orthographic Code provides the standards for spelling, pronunciation and grammatical norms for Slovenian; besides that, it deals with specific questions in the fields of word-formation, style and register.
A database of all Slovenian inflected forms (i.e. common and proper nouns, pronouns, verbs and adjectives) will be compiled in a lemmatization dictionary. A new one-volume dictionary of standard Slovenian will be prepared on the basis of the Dictionary of Standard Slovenian (SSKJ), but the use of new methods will provide a dictionary with the contents suited to the needs of contemporary users.
The Etymological Dictionary answers important questions on the development of the language. Etymological studies also throw light on the achievements in other fields of research, above all on those in history, ethnology and philology.
The Dictionary of Slovenian Protestant Writers is important as evidence of the beginnings of the standard Slovenian.
Dialectal studies, phonological descriptions, dialectal maps and dictionaries all contribute to a better comprehension of Slovenian, and are also important for philological studies.
Terminological dictionaries contribute to standardization of technical terms and to affirmation of individual specialist fields in the international sphere.
The results of this research give insight in the Slovenian language at the present and in the past.
The achieved results are important for national development and improvement of general knowledge.
