Abstract
The project comprises basic researches in the history of visual arts in Slovenia, in particular of the architecture, sculpture and painting as well as town planning, decorative arts and design from the early Middle Ages to the modern times. It includes survey and investigation of closed complexes of fields of certain stylistic periods in the sense of territorial corpora (in particular gothic religious architecture and wall painting) as well as researches of particular themes and individual artists (especially in the art of the 19th and 20th centuries), taking into account up-to-date methodologies and achievements of the art history discipline (stylistic and functional analysis, typology, iconography and contextual problems). Starting points are historical aspects within the investigation of archival and other written sources, for the modern periods also the aspects of art criticism and theory. Besides, the project includes thematic and stylistic comparisons with the material and situation in the other European regions and evaluations of the research results in view of them as well.
