Abstract
The role of the Slovenian Catholics in the development of the Slovene nation in the 20th century was extremely important. Their influence on culture, social and political life and development reached its climax at the beginning of the century. Under the influence of new ideas in Yugoslavia of the between-the-war period, on one side the Slovenian Catholics were challenged by liberalism and its ideological and economic crises, but one the other they tried to found the Christian life and actions on new basis. In this process of the new self-identification, the French Personalism and Youth Movement, especially of so called ''''krizarstvo'''' (The Cross Movement), were an important source of the inspiration. But it was communism, which presented for them the most difficult point of confrontation. During the Second World War and the Revolution it usurpated power and subjected also the Catholics to attain this aim. After the end of the communism the Catholic ideas are able to develop in the proper way. And for the Slovenian Cstholics this is also the solution of dilemmas between the Catholicism and the Nation, between Modernity and Postmodernity. The present research is important for our national development and for the integration of Slovenia as a state in international community.
