Abstract
The aim of the research is to analyse the state of Slovenian school geography in the period of the general curriculum reform in Slovenia, to find out its material and personnel conditions, the origins and expected results of the curriculum reform and the most current topics and themes that haven''t been considered enough. Among them the main focus will be on the problem of European dimension in geography teaching, which inludes the role of geography of neighbouring countries and landscapes in sylla- bus, didactic approach to demanding geography contents, environ- mental education, early cartographic literacy, the role of geographic education in vocational secondary schools and the importance of geography of Slovenia for national identity. In the frame of the previously mentioned themes we will analyse the importance and the effectiveness of the later and variegated didactic methods in geography lessons, the problem of individua- lisation and differentiation, the meaning of pupil''s interest, the implementation of field work and direct observation, the meaning and applicability of the media and computer technology and possibilities of international exchanges and usage of exper- iences in the field of geography teaching. A special attention will be paid to graduate and postgraduate teacher''s education and their higher creativity. The comparison with international experiences will be one of the important criterion for the evaluation of the specificity and universality of Slovenian school geography.
