Abstract
The confrontation and understanding of so-called alien cultures is always linked to the problem of differences in language, tradition, history and socialisation processes. The interpretation of various aspects and elements of ''''noneuropean'''' cultures is always linked to the geographic, political and economic positions of the interpreter as well as the subject of interpretation. In this research project we shall attempt to disregard the external, i.e. ideological and political, aspects of the problem discussed. We shall focus on the fundamental problems determining these categorical laws, that is, the problems of perception, understanding and presentation, through the optics of the traditional Chinese correlative dialectics and its most famous example, the yinyang - theory. The central question disscussed in this context is the evaluation of the hermeneutic concepts of the most influential classical and modern Chinese cognition theories. In recent years several books and articles have been published in the Chinese-speaking environment dealing with problems related to the use of western scientific methodology in studying subjects linked to specific Chinese tradition. The projects follows and attemps to evaluate some cruicial results of the debate on the hermeneutic dimensions of classical and modern Chinese texts and their role in the context of traditional Chinese thought. The main aim is the rediscovery and application of specific traditional Chinese methodological approaches and traditional categories. Therefore it also presents the modern methodological concepts being developed by the most distinguished representatives of the younger generation of Chinese theorists. These concepts namely not only represent an important contribution to hermeneutic and cognitive-theoretical discussions on an international level, but also open new spaces for fresh and, above all, culturologically more convincing reinterpretations of classical Chinese theoretical texts.
