Abstract
The proposed project is planned to carry on the investigations initiated within the scope of the research programme ''''Naravna in kulturna dedišcina slovenskega naroda'''' (Natural and cultural heritage of Slovenian nation). The propositions in the announcement limit it to five years although the programme has been planned as a long-term one with a long-term engagement of its performer, the Institute of Musicology, the central and the sole institute of this kind in the Republic of Slovenia. The subject researched is Slovenian music, in particular its historical aspects from the Middle Ages to the beginning of World War II (Middle Ages, Renaissance, Baroque, Classicism, Romanticism, and more recent Slovenian music). The researches comprise documentary, biographical, bibliographical, analytical and synthetical musicological approach. The results and findings are made public by catalogue listings, scientific papers and expert applications, scientifically critical publications of ancient music (the series of ''''Monumenta artis musicae Sloveniae''''), contributions to international expert conferences which are triennially organized by the Institute, acts of papers read there, and other dissertations. The selection of themes takes into consideration their relevance, the hitherto performed work, the principle of continuity and personnel capacities. The scientific-research work throws light on the problems of the connections between Slovenian and West-European music, it finds out European influences on the one hand and original contribution of Slovenian music to European musical culture on the other.
