Abstract
The main objective of the EU4Me project is to teach, learn and discuss contemporary crucial 4M topics in the EU (Multiculturalism, Multilingualism, Minorities, Migration) among primary school pupils and teachers with interdisciplinary team coming from EU studies, political science, educational sciences, defence studies, communication studies, law, linguistics, and sociology. Our aim is to develop innovative learning tools which will: (1) IN GENERAL help to improve the knowledge of European integration, to develop positive attitudes towards the European idea and its values, and to raise awareness of EU citizens’ rights; (2) SPECIFICALLY help to understand and respect Multilingual and Multicultural characteristics of the EU, discuss and understand Migration as one of the key factors which shape the present-day world, and to stress the importance of social inclusion of Minorities and their rights. To achieve these aims 1) informal didactical approaches and cross-curricular teaching, 2) two-year systematic project work with pupils through the method Active Research in Education, and 3) encouraging pupils in critical thinking by organising competition in debate on EU-related topics and essay competition, will be applied. The activities of the project will include 3 seminars for teachers, 14 workshops for pupils, 14 events for broader local communities, and two outreach events in the capital. The emphasis will be put on the schools located in multicultural and multilingual environments, including schools at the Slovenian border regions. The promotion of EU knowledge will thus be brought to regions which so far have had little exposure to this area of study. The project proposal is based also on the experiences of two successfully implemented Learning EU School projects in the periods 2012-2013 and 2013-2014. As such the EU4Me project represents a mixture of sustainability of established good practices and development of novel learning tools and approaches.
