Abstract
The objective of the three-year project in cooperation with the University of Nevada, Reno, is to contribute to the development of innovative techniques and procedures for the seismic design of bridges. The project includes three main topics: (a) new seismic design methodologies, (b) new structural concepts to improve seismic performance of reinforced concrete bridges and (c) the application of advanced information technology for knowledge transfer in seismic bridge engineering. More specifically, it addresses the topics of the performance based design methods, inelastic response modeling and analysis, simplified inelastic procedure based on push-over approach and inelastic spectra, structural irregularity issues, irregularity indices for bridge structures, seismic isolation, energy dissipation and the development of information technology based education tools. The project is intended to have an influence on the development and harmonization of the future seismic codes worldwide and in particular on the structural Eurocodes. It also provides a direct research support to the intensive highway program in Slovenia.
