Abstract
The project undertaken seeks to consolidate a joint European degree in communication sciences for undergraduate students. The project is based on two reasons: Firstly, there is full agreement on the importance of Education in the project of European integration to make Europe a whole and interconnected cultural region. Education is crucial to the development of knowledge, excellence, technology, and competitiveness, but it is more interesting to help develop personal and social competences and an awareness of the social, economic and cultural problems and challenges of our society. Secondly, communication has emerged as one of the most efficient tools in this objective. Communication is not only necessary for the idea of Europe to be accepted by its citizens, but, it is, above all, crucial in the comprehension and understanding of diversity in cultures, religions, languages, traditions both European and not European. It is the essential way to dialogue and recognition and acceptance of multiculturalism. To reach this aim, social and human sciences – communication belonging to both of them - provide students and faculty with an accurate understanding and awareness of the evolution and real problems of societies and therefore with more adequate, down-to-earth and complete search for solutions. This project will produce the following: a Needs-Analysis of the situation of the Communication Studies in Europe, Joint Competences for a new degree programme will be identified in order to develop joint learning outcomes in terms of subject-specific and generic competences. This ought to end in a common methodology of assessment and joint approaches for learning and teaching core competences, abilities and subjects relevant to nowadays communication. A Quality Assurance Report for the monitoring of the joint modules, staff quality and motivation, evaluation of the quality of the learning environment in workplace learning, quality of class rooms and the equipment, monitoring of the entrance level of potential students, monitoring of the student performance in terms of quality of learning outcomes to be obtained, monitoring of the employability of graduates. This joint curriculum development will result in opening new opportunities to dialogue, exchange, mobility, and common understanding. From a more academic point of view, joint development of competences and modules will put into practice the objectives of the European Higher Education Area, enhancing students and staff mobility, multilinguism (English, French and Spanish), interdisciplinary and jointly management of education programmes.
