Abstract
In an increasingly service oriented Europe, despite that employees’ communication skills are ranked among the most sought, they are ranked very low in terms of employer satisfaction. Trainees, unemployed jobseekers, employees, individuals need opportunities & means to improve their communication skills. Likewise, trainers need methodologies, materials, and tools designed to plan and facilitate engaging & effective training sessions. eTrees aims to support learners & trainers by developing a service utilising game-based learning & branching through stories to engage learners in first-person learn-by-doing experiences, in online or hybrid learning environments. In branching stories simulations, learners adopt a role in a fictional scenario, and their decisions and actions, move the scenario forward in time to new situations that are relevant to the pedagogical objectives.Expected results include:- A validated online service for learners and for trainers that want to develop their own scenarios through an easy-to-use authoring tool & re-usable content. - An innovative game-based learning methodology.- 4 communication skills improvement online learning scenarios.- Trainers’ & trainees’ guidelines, materials, assessment tools, and usage scenarios.- 1 “train the trainer” seminar & 4 training workshops.- 7 dissemination events, social networking, awareness raising campaign.- Strategic sustainability & continuation actions.Expected benefits & impact:eTrees is expected to improve job performance, enhance employability & help employees advance their careers. Beyond the world of work, eTrees can help people in improving communication competences as a personal development path.Trainers benefit from using the eTrees methodology, learning content, and learning game, to organise & deliver training. In addition, through its authoring capabilities, they can focus on developing their own content, not worrying about software development & maintenance costs & risks.
