Research will be focused on biotechnological techniques used for breeding and propagation of Allium species and is based on our previous findings in onion research during 1195-1997. For gynogenic onion regeneration heritability and fertility of regenerants will be studied. In onion, leek, garlic and several ornamental Allium species direct somatic shoot organogenesis (recently achieved in onion) will be studied in relation to the use in micropropagation and genetic transformation.
