Abstract
Forces and pressures acting in the hip joint are essential in planning hip operations as well as in the evaluation of the results after surgery. A 3-D mathematical model for determination of the distribution of hip joint pressures during ambulation has been developed. Besides, a computer x-ray film processing system and its application to the analysis of the results of hip surgery are beeing developed. We have been doing also on the analysis and synthesis of gait analysis, which will enable us to calculate some individual biomechanical parameters. The methodology is accepted for publication in the J. Biomech (in print). We have strated also with the basic research of the lubrication mechaninsms of the hip joint, glicoproteins and its relation to the wear mechanisms and we are currently using the model of human erytrocyte membrane.
