Abstract
Disturbance and regeneration patterns play a crucial role in developmental dynamics of virgin forests. The result is a complex forest structure, which is adapted to environmental conditions and maintains a variety of important functions. Based on individual tree growth computer-models the existing data will be analysed thoroughly for the first time. Through additional research on some important ecological factors the ecological background of vegetation dynamics will be interpreted.
