Abstract
The aim of this project is to develop numerically controlled unit with integrated interpolator for simultaneous control of up to six axes. This unit is to be primarily used in the field of electro-discharging machines (EDM). When designing hardware and software parts of this unit the principle of basic modules must be taken into account. This would ensure compatibility with a wide range of manufacturing systems and would enable us to satisfy a wide range of desires on the part of our customers.
Besides being able to execute the programmed electrode path, the numerically controlled unit must be capable of rapidly changing the direction of movement (forwards-backwards) along the desired trajectory in 3D space. Rapid changes in the direction of movement are required for cleaning purposes.
Consequently, linear and circular interpolation algorithms in 3D space, which must be capable of moving axes along the prescribed trajectory, are to be developed. The direction of movement (forwards-backwards) is given by the analogous input to the algorithms. Last but not he least, when moving the axes from the start to the end point on the trajectory, the algorithms must comply with strict speed and accuracy criterions in accordance with specific EDM signal and position of the system.
EDM technician inputs the desired worktool path through user-friendly graphical interface, that communicates with the interpolator by using quick serial connection. The entire system is to be connected to the computer network through 10Mbit connection and can be connected to the common technological data base.
