Abstract
Fossil fauna and flora, their stratigraphic position, understanding of palaeoenvironment, all in connection with tectonic movements and other phenomena, is of fundamental importance for understanding geological structure, basis for geological maps and other geological recearches. The utmost attention has been paid to the recearches of Cretaceous and Palaeogene nannoplankton, Palaeogene nummulitins and Pleistocene mammals. A particularly great importance is attributed to the new statements and discoveries of the Palaeocene/Eocene and Oligocene/Miocene boundary. The results are being compared to a larger central European area as well as to the entire European and Mediterranean space and are partially considered as a good supplement to the general issues concerning stratigraphy and palaeontology.
