Abstract
During the last decades it has become evident that the coeliac disease is underdiagnosed, whereas clinical features of the disease have changed to milder forms and the diagnosis is often made in older age. The true prevalence within different populations may be as high as 1:100 individuals. The use of serology (AGA and EMA antibodies) is often the basis for case findings and small bowell biopsy is the corner stone of the diagnosis. Gluten-free diet is the treatment of choise. Our study investigates the incidence and prevalence of the coeliac disease in the NE part of Slovenia. It also covers any incidence among the members of the families of the coeliac disease patients. Apart from that, our study undertakes to established wheather Se is significant ingredient of the diet of the coeliac disease patients. The incidence of malignant diseases among the members of the families of the coeliac disease patients is included in our study as well. The results of our study will be published both in the domestic and foreign literature.
