Abstract
The primary context of the project is nursing education. Students attain 75 ECTSs of practical training during their education. Therefore the project’s context is extended to health care organizations as well as health care staff and consumers of health care services. A new approach in health care is needed to effectively face the growing demand for tailor-made and patient-centered care in the coming years, by providing smarter care, from a distance (online or digital), with more focus on prevention and early detection as well as treatment compliance. The challenge will be to provide more and better quality care within the same resources, as people are growing older and are developing more chronic illnesses. Electronic data sharing, telecare and telecoaching can contribute to the development of an integrated care model, where patients/health care consumers are encouraged to actively participate in their health care process. As such, a patient becomes co-pilot in the management of his chronic illnesses and needs to be supported by his health care team. Recent ICT and technology developments have made a change from current care to integrated care possible. However, education institutions of health professionals need to integrate the smart use of these new technologies into their curriculum, so that students will be future-proof and ambassadors of self-management support. The main objective of the project is to develop the DigiNurse Model for nursing education. It will be a generic model containing the organisational, educational and professional elements for the development of students’ digital competence. The organisational perspective is that is that the organisation provides administrative support, economical resources and learning facilities for teachers and students. DigiNurse Model is supported by the DigiNurse Community. DigiNurse Community is a community of teaching and training professionals in the field of nursing. The community gathers the professionals and experts who are interested in including modern digital methods into nursing training and education. The community serves as a platform to spread new ideas and digital innovations in the nursing field.
