Abstract
In the research project for the production of premises for the preparation of guidelines for dealing with crisis situations in establishments for the education of children and adolescents with emotional and behavioural disorders in Slovenia relevant comparable foreign best practices will be reviewed; an assessment of the current situation in Slovenian educational establishments, youth homes, and housing groups will be produced according to the specific groups of children and adolescents that require special, different approaches; their practices and views, the participation and the disorders of children and adolescents will be analysed to be able to produce the premises for the preparation of guidelines for dealing with crisis situations. Our focus will be on the whole continuum from preventive activities and early detection to identification of and coping with diverse crisis situations or with behavioural patterns and disorders – from auto- to hetero-aggression, complex, multilayer difficulties, psychiatric treatment of children and their specifics in the work and interventions of educational establishments, various addictions. With triangulation enough information will be obtained, which—merged with adequate sources and successful domestic and foreign practices—will serve for quality preparation of the premises.
Significance for science
Project funded by the European Social Fund: Holistic treatment of children and adolescents with behavioural and emotional disorders; new legislation, family tribunals, 40 years no research in the area, flexibility as potential of programmes, and option of operating within programmes with limited population. The significance for science lies in the production of a model, of guidelines for work with extremely demanding population with which the existing assistance system is unable to cope. For the development of the profession also the review itself of all the behavioural phenomena and deviations of children and adolescents with behavioural and emotional disorders in educational establishments is extremely important, as it will contribute to better differentiation and methodologically correct approaches regarding the specificities of each grouping separately.
Significance for the country
The larger the number of children included in early treatment, the greater the probability that in their youth and adulthood they will be able to be empowered to live independent and socially adjusted life. In consequence, for the real sector – the economy – this means so much less expenditure into the treasury.
