Abstract
It is known that an imbalance between cathepsins and their inhibitors in brain tumors correlates with the malignancy, while cathepsin B in glioblastoma correlates with shorte survival. We will measure cathepsins B and L, stefins A and B, and cystatin C in brain tumor cell lines of different malignancy and investigate the possibilities to inhibit their unvasiveness in vitro. In clinical stidies, we will determinate these enzymes in tissue homogenates and in histological sections and correlate them with genetic instability, prognosis, and patients'' response to chemotherapy.
