Abstract
Language is a living thing. Terminological fields characterised by rapid technological progress pose a particular challenge to its development. Among others, geoinformatics, which deals with the acquisition, processing, and use of spatial data and information to support various decisions in space and time, is characterised by technological development. Consequently, it is confronted with a growing number of researchers and developers and individuals who use geoinformation solutions in their daily lives. The terminological dictionary, which deals with the professional terminology (terms) in the field of geoinformatics, is thus a necessary tool for the growing number of users. These are also often faced with the challenge of finding a suitable Slovenian translation from the generally well-established English version of the term, as professional interpretations in Slovenian have not yet been systematically collected and harmonised. The project "Multilingual dictionary in the field of geoinformatics" aims to develop the concept of terminological dictionary in the field of geoinformatics, which will contain an explanation of each term in Slovenian and a translation of the term into English and German. The complementary English-German-Slovenian dictionary will increase the usefulness of the dictionary while supporting continuity in the development of both dictionaries. The English and German equivalents will make it easier for users to translate professional texts authentically or further substantiate what a certain Slovenian term means globally and vice versa. The dictionary concept refers both to the process model for the development and maintenance of the dictionary and the content part. In addition to the dictionary's content and structure, the dictionary concept will also include a procedural aspect that focuses on the process model for coordinating the translation and interpretation of terms by multiple participants. An important objective of the project is to establish an e-solution to support the development of the dictionary, i.e. to coordinate the explanation at each term and support the publication of translation versions and explanations of terms to add comments/update the content with the appropriate metadata. The project deliverable will also be an implementation plan for updating or adding content to the dictionary after the project is completed. Within the project, a set of terms will be prepared for the dictionary, hierarchically organised n thematic clusters to facilitate semantic interpretation of the terms. The project's tasks further relate to the selection of terms for which full professional explanations with equivalents in English and German will be prepared within the project. The organisation of the terms will be based on the internationally relevant dictionaries for the field of geoinformatics, while the contents will also be adapted to the Slovenian specifics in this field. In addition to the dictionary concept, the e-solution for the development of the dictionary and a set of terms for the dictionary, an essential result of the 18-month project is the implementation plan for setting up, updating and supplementing the dictionary with new content after the project is completed.
