Abstract
Recent developments based on the operation of silicon detectors at cryogenic temperatures give hope to enlarge the field of their application. In particular, it has been recently demonstrated that the operation at temperatures below 130 degrees Kelvin allows to extend the range of silicon detectors of more than one order of magnitude. The main objective of this research will be to qualify new radiation hard silicon detectors based on conventional materials cooled to cryogenic temperatures.
