Abstract
Few years of operation of the Vrhovo dam has pointed out unwanted hydrodynamic phenomena during spilling of high waters over the spillways. These phenomena cause excessive erosion in the stilling basin and in the downstream river bed, which both endanger the safety of operation. There is going to be constructed a chain of HEPP with typical spillways on Lower Sava River, so there is a need to investigate the mentioned phenomena and search for an optimized construction of the spillways.
