Abstract
Bone mineral density in kidney transplant patients fals significantly in the early period after kidney transplantation. Bone fractures are significiantly more common in this population. We would like to prevent bone loss by bisphosphonate alendronate inthe early period after transplantation. 40 patients will be included in the study, they will be randomised in two groups, one of them will be treated by alendronate, calcium and calcitriol, the other by calcium and calcitriol. In all patients bone biopsy will be performed and bone mineral density of the lumbar spine and hip by dual energy x-ray absorptiometry will be measured immediately after transplantation and one year thereafter.
