Abstract
The importance of digitization and creativity / cultural awareness is always present, but it is particularly emphasized in the current situation, at the time of the pandemic. We need to acquire new skills and competences that strengthen creative potential and thus contribute to the resilience of the educational, cultural and creative sector. In higher education we need to be equipped for the challenges related to online and distance learning and in tourisms/business sector we need to transfer a lot of our activities to virtual platforms. As a consequence, support in the modernization and digitized transformation of education/ tourism; the development of digital/pedagogical skills is crucial for both sectors. Through this interdisciplinary alliance, all partners can improve and promote technical skills, media literacy and awareness on our common cultural heritage while fostering our solidarity to overcome the negative effects of the pandemic. Through digitization in the field of archeology, we can get to know different remote places with high importance for our common cultural cradle, transfer knowledge, and learn about similarities that unite us without physical mobility. This enables the expansion of knowledge for the majority of students, tourists, citizens who cannot be internationally mobile. Digitization can play an enormous role for culture and its dissemination, because the new technologies can help visualize the archaeological heritage in a completely new way and make it accessible to the general public in an attractive way. Digitization makes it possible to make the archaeological heritage regionally, nationally and internationally visible, which means expanding opportunities for people, and thus sustainable cultural tourism, e.g. through virtual tours without changing or harming the natural environment. Activities with digitization also focus on the sustainable use and protection of invisible and little-known archaeological heritage by increasing the capacities of public actors and introducing innovative visualization approaches and methods. There are almost no direct links between archaeological or historical sites and the public. But digitalization makes it possible to involve the audience, which can lead to a better understanding of the values of cultural and historical heritage, especially from the late antiquity as focus of our project IRSCHEN.
