Abstract
Because of its exceptional role in determining the appearance of the landscape, land use has long been a recognized subject of research in geography as much abroad as in Slovenia. Land use reflects a complex correlation between natural, historical, and socioeconomic factors. The relations between the land use and various natural and social factors within individual Slovene regions is being researched and analysed. Various data bases on land use are being tested and compared. With the help of the Geographical Information System a land use typology will be created which will serve as the basis for regional planning and sustainable development.
