Abstract
The proposed programme encompasses the drafting, compilation and publication of the basic lexicographical works of the Slovene language which are absent, defined in terms of time and organisation. Within this framework it pays to address the following elements: The lexicographical part of the Slovene Orthographic dictionary (publication) and the Orthographic dictionary of the Slovene Language for schools (concept and drafting); the new Dictionary of Slovene Literary Language (concept and drafting) with a possible separate edition of Vocabulary (materials after 1991); Lemmatisation Dictionary of Slovene Literary Language (Constituting a collection of all word forms including information on the lemma). On the basis of morphological analysis of the words encompassed in the SSKJ (Dictionary of Slovene Literary Language) and the Vocabulary of the Slovene Language, Slovene personal and geographical names, a database with all inflected forms will be drawn up. The programme includes also a redaction edition of certain dialectological collections of material compiled by different authors - differentiated against SSKJ (e.g. V. Novak, Glossary of Old Literary Prekmurje Dialect). Significance of the research programme for science in a global sense: Owing to the particularities of appropriately interpreted Slovene linguistic material there is a high demand for it, within Slavic studies as well as in the wider science. Thus, for example, the lemmatisation dictionary will enable the constitution of larger collections of grammatical data on lemmatised texts, and effectively support the employment of statistical methods for annotation of corpora of texts. While text collections for the English, German, French and Czech languages are already available to the scientific and professional public (on the Internet), this would also open the way for the Slovene national corpus to be available on the Internet. This is a necessary basis for the inclusion of the Slovene language into contemporary currents in the science of machine translation and machine comprehension of the text. In times when the most recent findings in the area of machine storage, analysis and comparison of texts are, with the help of the EU, moving towards the languages of Central and Eastern Europe, this research means an important step toward the acquisition of these goals. Significance of the research programme in Slovenia The lexicographical part of the Slovene Orthographic dictionary (the basic and adjusted version) constitutes a normative manual for issues related to writing and pronunciation and issues related to collocation and the definition of the register of style. The completion of the new dictionary of the Slovene literary language, a modernised edition of SSKJ in terms of concept and materials, will require considerable time. Publication of the material gathered after 1991 could constitute the first step. The Lemmatisation dictionary of Slovene literary language is an essential step in the building of further informational-theoretic research into the Slovene language. It is not based only on linguistic research methods. It is interdisciplinary in the sense of linking this branch with contemporary findings in the area of morphological-syntactical marking and analysis of texts.
