Abstract
The research program is based on principles and recommendations of the "Agenda Habitat". Within the programme, there are envisaged theoretical, methodological and applicatory researches of multi-disciplinary forms of analysing, monitoring, creating, and guidelining of basic and specific spatial elements that have direct or indirect impact on the quality of living in Slovenia. Final results will be used in analysing specific problems in Slovenia as well as in the joint development programmes carried out together with developed countries, particularly the neighbouring ones, as such practice should become a model for problem-solving within EU. The research programme links together the following basic constituent parts:
natural resources in relation to the sustainable development of quality living and to the environment protection, and ecological components of the environment which could preserve or regain a healthy living environment. The major issues aimed at creating quality living environment are: man's interventions into the environment, settlement patterns, architectural elements of environment as basic components of the suistainable development of cities and other settlements (the countryside, the architectural heritage and identity, the impact of urbanisation and architectural design on health, sociological and cultural components of the environment and their feed-back on architecture and settlement patterns, problems of links with the national economy development, problems and methodology of decisions concerning planning. Each of the the components comprises substantially and methodologically the following procedures: determining global, regional and local (and also individual) resources, establishing relatios and values of the environment and the natural and man-made heritage according to the European and national criteria, defining multi-disciplinary of the evaluation criteria; identification of problems, monitoring, planning and building strategy and environmental protection on the level of region, settlement and architecture, promotion of sustainable, ecological and humane criteria typical of the Slovene cultural space and its integration into the european space, education of experts and the general public for the sustainable development of the living environment and man-friendly architecture. Special components of the programme are:
protection of the architecture, settlement and landscape heritage for future genarations:
ecological, bio-tectonic, humane and healthy -friendly technology and design for all sorts of construction; psychological, cultural, sociological and other components of architecture for specific regions and settlement patterns and for the assessment of possible impacts of construction.
