Abstract
The research program consists of several intertwined parts, such as methodological foundations of information systems development together with databases and data warehouses, strategies of quality assurance, design of intelligent systems and design of real-time systems. The research work is focused on development of new and efficient techniques, methods and methodologies of modeling of business processes, design of information systems and development of software, with emphasis on object-oriented and component approach. The research is guided into context-sensitive behavior, that is subjective approach. The lack of methodological infrastructure for support of reuse in all phases of IS development requires the formalization of reuse on higher levels of abstraction, on the level of ideas, concretized in the form of patterns, business object frameworks, heuristic principles and components. Additionally, the support for the repository of components is needed. Modern IS call for new techniques and approaches to the design of user interfaces, new strategies in building the multi-level architectures and appropriate methods for data and knowledge management. Our group will conduct the research in the area of transactions management, application servers and object transaction monitors and will develop the performance measurement tests of different distributed architectures. A successful transformation into information society requires research of security mechanisms and integration of legacy systems with newly developed ones. The emerging electronic commerce is tightly connected to the reengineering of business systems, with emphasis on efficient quality assurance systems and knowledge management.
We will continue our research with the definition of new approaches to the introduction of quality systems in information industry and with the definition of formal methods for modeling of software processes. Special emphasis will be given to the quantitative evaluation (metrics) of software systems efficiency, and to new techniques of verification and validation of distributed object systems, designed within iterative-incremental development process. The research in the area of intelligent systems will be focused to the development of new methods, based on fuzzy logic, intelligent agents, operations research and artificial intelligence. Research of real-time systems will be headed towards design of real-time operating system kernel, specification of high-level language properties and upgrade of the existing compiler. The emphasis will also be given to the development of a tool for design of embedded hard systems, graphical design, and the verification and validation of embedded systems.
