Abstract
Researchers of the Power engineering research group are active in fields of analysing electric networks, quality of electric energy, common energetic, lighting engineering and power devices. Analysis of electric networks includes stochastic and deterministic calculation of the load flow that are basic for planing and operating of the electrical networks. Optimal operation of the distribution network is achieved by minimising active losses. This task is performed with network reconfiguration or by compensating reactive load, achieved with active or passive filters. Quality of electric energy: synonym for quality of electric energy is reliability of supply, voltage shape, stable frequency, and price. Various measurements of voltage, frequency, higher harmonics and other parameters of quality of electric energy must be therefor carried out and adequate analysis and additional research must be performed to be able to advice the customers. Common energetic: Most of the energy needs are covered by burning fuels: coal, oil, natural gas or with electricity brought to us from power plants via lines. It is not easy to harmonise energy needs on one side and demands for protection of the healthy environment on the other side. All-round and long-term effort is needed, which includes among other also energy saving, changing to activities that need less energy, usage of heat insulation. Research of the new machines with better performance, inclusion of other energy sources like solar and geothermal energy and in not so close future fission is also important. Lighting engineering: Research activities in field of lighting engineering includes research and information co-ordination in field of seeing and colours, light and radiation, quality planing of lighting in inner and outer environment, measurement of light sources, luminaries and lightning systems and light management. Important results of research in field of lighting are proposals of standards and recommendations, which are in lighting always adapted to geographical and micro-climatic conditions. Power devices: Field includes low-, middle- and high-voltage apparatus, devices and stations, which are essential elements of power system. Research is focused mainly on new products, on products, that will replace known classic elements and on modernising classic switching devices with monitoring system. Monitoring of the electric devices or stations is important for increasing operation reliability. Monitoring system is based on recognition of partial discharges with neurone network in insulation elements. The results of this are decisions for alarming or final disconnection of devices.
