Abstract
The research in the Laboratory of Technical Physics at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Ljubljana is done mainly in the interdisciplinary field of technology driven physics. The main activities are the following:
- research and development of sensors for characterization of materials and processes,
- research and development of intelligent systems and instruments aimed at process monitoring, modeling, and control,
- research of non-linear and chaotic dynamic properties of mecanic manufacturing processes and other technological processes
- analysis of acoustic emission activity of materials under stress and acoustic emission in mechanical manufacturing processes,
- research and analysis of methods for non-destructive testing of materials and constructions,
- research of methods for optimal procesing of information,
- research of self-organization and synergetics of dynamic system.
The basic aim of our research work is to develop methods for on-line monitoring, modeling, control, and optimization of manufacturing processes, stressed materials and constructions. For this purpose, (a) basic research of dynamic phenomena in manufacturing processes is under way, (b) novel methods are developed and known, methods for signal processing are tested, and (c) intelligent instruments are developed and tested. The research is based on theory of synergetics, chaotic dynamics, statistics, intelligent learning algorithms, genetic algorithms and process optimization.
