Abstract
The research program deals with geotechnical engineering. It includes in-situ, laboratory and experimental investigations of geotechnical soil characteristics and analyses of rheological relationships of soils and soft rocks. In addition, the behaviour of geotechnical structures and constructions is studied considering the soil-structure interaction.
The construction of infrastructure and the protection or repair works of the existing constructions causes several problems, particularly in case of construction works in urban areas. The objective of the research project is focussed on finding new solutions to the analysis of interactions between foundations and nonlinear nonhomogeneuos soils in which there may be underground constructions (tunnels) or excavations, and also for cases when constructions are located on slopes. The new solutions to nonlinear interactive problems will be based on the consideration of the influences of the deformability of structures, soil nonlinearity and interaction conditions.
The new approcah will provide a more precise simultaneous prediction of settlements, horizontal displacements, the bearing capacity of soils and the discussed structures.Advanced in-situ and laboratory investigations will be used in our attempt to determine the rheological relationships of soils more precisely and to improve the prediction of the behaviour of geotechnical structures. Special attention will be paid to three-axial static and dynamic investigations of soils and soft rocks and to the analysis of the obtained results. We will improve the performance and the procedure of geotechnical analyses by including the influence of nonlinear soil-structure interactions. The research work will include the research, analysis and verification of the existing and the development of new nonlinear models to be used in the solution of standard geotechnical nonlinear cases of soil-structure interaction that represent a challange to the international geotechnical science. The research will be based on the results of experimental, in-situ and laboratory investigations, generalized geotechnical models and parametric analyses of results. The interpretation of results will be suitable for use in everyday geotechnical practice.
The research program also includes the improvement of standard investigation procedures, geotechnical analyses, research equipment and software, and a more user friendly transfer of research results into engineering practice.
