Abstract
Recently, computer science is facing with complex and nonlinear problems. Their
analysis and synthesis exceed well known procedures that are valid for so called
deterministic or stochastic systems. The systems with such features are classified as adaptive systems. For their solving some mechanisms of adaptation or learning, like soft computing techniques, are needed. The basic goal of the programme is to design a general model of adaptive system, capable to learn from its environment in order to fulfill specific requirements. Disciplines like artificial neural networks, genetic algorithms and fuzzy logic will be used in order to achieve this goal. Further, modern concepts of communication systems in relation with computer networking will be applied, together with new flexible computer architectures, based on FPGA technology. Different problems from real world will be investigated, like environmental problems (polution, prediction etc), where modeling of corresponding dynamical systems is foreseen, real time control problems, recognition and prediction problems, etc, where hierarchical neural nets with special learning algorithms are anticipated, etc.
