Abstract
A primary goal of the programme is to achieve capabilities for integral and comprehensive environmental modelling and assessment. Such modelling includes integrated mass transfer, migration and accumulation of pollutants in/through environmental media. Special emphasis is put on uncertainty and validity of the modelling. Results of the programme will be used as a support in policy making and for justification of strategies for economical development of the country. The main activities of the research programme are: a) Education: training of young researchers in most advanced techniques in environmental modelling and assessment. In paralell, development of such techniques will be performed. b) Creation of knowledge: research in the field of uncertainty of modelling and associated long-term predictions. Exploration of validity of models which simulate future events and states. c) Involvement into creating solutions for most complex environmental issues in the country: development of expert systems and evaluation procedures for most complex environmental issues in the country and for policy development. Support of decision making. Research on Strategic Environmental Assessments.
