Abstract
Anaplastic thyroid carcinoma is a fatal neoplasm with poor response to treatment. For improvements of local control and survival various combinations of chemotherapy (Cht) with radiation and surgery were used. In this study Cht with low dosed Vinblastine (VLB) and Adriamycin (Adria) will be combined with radiation. Locally advanced inoperable differentiated thyroid carcinoma is a therapeutic challenge. Infusions of low dosed VLB will be used for rapid reduction of tumors thus making possible surgical treatment. The effect of VLB and/or Adria will be studied in tumor models alone or in combination with radiation to further elucidate mechanisms of action including the effect of VLB on blood vessels. The role of cytomorphology, measurements of DNA, apoptosis and Ki 67 for the prediction of the Cht effect will be studied using Fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) specimen of tumors and clinical data on the effect of Cht.
