Abstract
Sympathetic system is activated and resting energy expendature (REE) is elevated in chronic heart failure. High REE is the cause of cachexia in CHF. Cachexia is associated with lower quality of life and higher mortality rate. Elevated REE could be the result of activated sympathetic system, because catecholamines have thermogenic affect. The change and mechanisms of REE in CHF after treatment with beta-adrenergic antagonists will be studed to identify possible treatment to prevent cachexia
