Abstract
The interdisciplinary and cross-cultural approach to self-concept models will be proceeded in the focused basic research. The basis will be focused on psychology, philosophy and sociology as well as on proceedings from the applied project »Basic factors of learning and of motivation for learning in the school«. Main research findings about self-concept models emphasise both the lack of interdisciplinary approach and the gap in investigation of relationship between self-concept and actual correlates, which co-develop the individual’s life praxis in modernity. The main hypothesis will be formed that self-concept is significantly related to two correlates, motivation and competition. It will be theoretically as well as empirically tested. In 70ies it could be noticed an increase of applied research of motivation in education and management, but nowadays the basic investigations of the motivations are radically decreased. Therefore the aim of these research is to critically analyse and redefine a phenomenon of motivation, to set the starting-points of the basic research of it and to integrate it in the forms of manifestation of the individual’s self-concept. The second correlate, which will be subject of our psychological and philosophical cross-cultural research is a phenomenon of competition, which plays an essential role in the investigating of a self-concept. A competition has become one of the dominating praxis of life of every person in modern society. In several life situations, in every period of his or her life, in several cultures a competition shapes the person’s self-concept. Persons of different age, gender, nationality and culture (Slovene, Hungary, Hong Kong) will be researched in the investigation. They will be sampled by the method of accidental choice. The proper means of the measurement will be used. The collected and analysed data will be interdisciplinary interpreted. They will be compared with the results of others studies. Our model of the self-concept will be grounded on that basis. These results are expected to bring new scientific knowledge about the significance of motivation and competition for the self-concept. They will influence the forthcoming applied research, which will centre on topics of education.
