Abstract
Poly(ethyleneterephthalate) (PET) is a polymer material used in packaging and can be found in municipal waste. It can be fully or partially depolymerized through degradation-solvolysis. In the proposed project we will examine the dependence of the depolymerization process on reaction conditions and contaminants that can be find in waste. The degradation process will be optimized and the reaction products will be further processed into unsaturated polyester resins for use as binders in construction. The economics of the process will be considered as a key element.
