Abstract
Genetically modified foods are today a subject of numerous researches, but so many controversial opinions, which were caused by genetically modified organisms in food, were not followed by any other new discovering in the history of nutrition. Differences in opinions are caused because of different knowledge or want of knowledge of the nature of genetic modification of organisms, because of different interests of involved sides and because of other factors. In the world, there is a trend of increased public concern about the use of genetic modification for the production of food. In the research, which we are applying for, we want to analyse the public opinion of Slovenian inhabitants towards consuming of genetically modified food, entirenessly. We would like to know, what concerns people have about the safety of genetically modified food, how much they know about the nature of genetic modification, what people know about the labelling of genetically modified food and what is the influence of sociodemographic variables on the public opinion. Our research hypothesis is the following: Knowing and understanding the problem of genetically modified food among majority of Slovenian inhabitants, is week, comparing available data from the west European countries. The consequence of this is relatively high portion of negative opinions about this kind of food. The hypothesis will be confirmed or rejected on the basis of opinion analysis of sample population, with a help of questionnaire and with the statistical treatement of data. The results will be potencial directions for education of people, they could help for state decisions in the field of legislation and strategy of development, in the frame of joining to European Union and in the frame of Slovenian integration in the other World's uniting.
