Abstract
In the prospective double-blind randomised study the effects of epidural clonidine and cyclooxygenase 2 inhibitors and their influence on the immune, neuroendocrine and inflammatory stress response during major surgical procedures will be studied. White cell blood count, lymphocytes and NK cells will be followed during the surgical procedures and three days postoperatively. The concentrations of proinflammatory cytokines IL-1, IL-6 and TNF-alpha will be studied during surgical procedures and three days postoperatively. Increased amount of purulent expectorate, increased body temperature and radiologic evidence of new lung infiltration will be investigated.
