Abstract
Inventory, evaluation and management with natural heritage outside protected areas based on examples from South-Western and North-Eastern Slovenia This project deals with the biological contents of a traditional cultural landscape in Slovenia. Owing to the well preserved traditional cultural landscape in the north-eastern part of Slovenia (Haloze, Goricko, Slovenske Gorice, Kozjansko) and in the south-western part of Slovenia (Karst, Istria) these two above mentioned regions were chosen for a comparision of biodiversity in the preserved cultural landscape. Biological researches were carried out in the field of floristics, vegetations science, entomofaunistics, ornitofaunistics and terriology, as well as in ecology. In the field of floristics we have selected some indicatory plants species, wchich are indicating the habitats with high diversity, like endangered weed species, dry grasslands species and wetlands species. In the field of vegetation our attention has been paid to the most endangered type of vegetation - the dry grasslands. We have researched some plant communities that were also excluded and evaluated. The fauna of the birds was in a traditional cultural landscape abundant and specific and. Therefore, considered to be an important indicator group. We have also made a list of small mammalia and of some groups of insects. Our purpose is to define, classify and evaluate these habitats, as well as species connected with traditional culturla landscape, which are being located in the two regions. Therefore, the final aim of the project is also represented by topography, inventory and strategy of preserving the above mentioned habitats. In 1998 we made a list of the fauna of bats in Goricko and evaluated it. We have made a list and evaluated rare and endangered orchid species Himantoglossum adriaticum in the wine-growing Haloze region, whereby we have excluded the most valuable habitats of dry grasslands. In the woody Haloze we have excluded dry grasslands on the basis of appearance of the association Onobrychido-Brometum. In the Littoral region we were dealing with defining the indicatory species of the birds for the traditional cultural landscape of Istria and Karst. Besides, our attention has also been paid to the feeding ecology of the eagle owl, The nesting of golden eagle in the Karst has been evaluated. In addition, we have also researched some endangered and quickly changing saline habitats near the port of Koper and in the bay of Škocjan. Some new or rare species for the flora of Slovenia have beed discovered.
