Abstract
Shortening of delivery times, increasing the number of product variants, individualisation of customers' demands, and more and more complex products lead to the conception of ever more intelligent, flexible and integrated manufacturing systems, which demand an interdisciplinary approach and good connections among research organisations and production enterprises. Time to production has to be heavily shortened. Therefore, in the present project proposal, we propose an interdisciplinary approach for solving research and development as well as production problems. Our research aims to: Development and production of prototypes and forming tools by use of rapid prototyping and vacuum casting, development and production of prototypes and tools for injection moulding of plastics, thermoforming and rotational casting by use of rapid prototyping and high-speed cutting, optimisation of surface roughness of products and tools by use of genetic methods and neural networks, prediction of production costs for forming tools by use of evolutionary and genetic algorithms, introduction of reverse engineering into the production of forming tools and prototypes. Results of the proposed project will be transferred into the production environment as well as into the studying process.
Significance for science
Results of research work are actual from scientific standpoint because of involved most modern production technologies. Also the most recognized research institutions and advanced companies are putting great stress on these research topics. The research results of our group is also from the methodological point of view scientifically very up-to-date, because it incorporates the optimizing and modeling of technological systems/processes with methods of artificial intelligence (e.g., genetic algorithms, genetic programming, neural networks, fuzzy logic, swarm intelligence, artificial vision). These methods were for our research purposes additionally investigated and developed. Our researching have an interdisciplinary note, since we connecting different fields of science: e.g., integration of layered technologies and medicine (development of biocompatible implants with antibacterial functioning for maxillofacial surgery, developing orthopedic implants), and integration of artificial intelligence and medicine (optimizing the functionality of medical machines and instruments with artificial intelligence methods). Used technologies, methods and solutions have echo in international scientific community. Our research results; research contents and researches which were preformed in the frame of this programme group also point on that. From our, publications, citations and issued patents it is evident that the content of the proposed programme is scientifically original and actual and on high international level.
Significance for the country
Importance for Slovenia’s development - important impact on the raise of technological level of Slovenian enterprises, shortening of time-to-market, rationalization of production costs and environmental friendly production. - Development of intelligent robotic systems for assembly and manufacturing assure rational manufacturing processes and rise of competitive position. - Development and application of intelligent adaptive systems in the field of metal cutting (turning, milling) has influence in cost reduction, higher product quality and lover entered energy consumption. - We mastered unique and small serial production with layered technologies and other modern technologies development. For Slovenian enterprises this means higher competitive position, fellowship of latest production trends and even trend creation from a Slovenian companies (like some production niches). - In a field of interdisciplinary cooperation of modern technological processes and medicine some major time wining manners were developed, like development of new chirurgical tools that will help to shorten waiting lines and improve patient live quality after the operation. - With development of reverse engineering methods we preserve objects of technical and cultural heritage.
