Significance for science
In recent years, research group of the Department of Vascular Diseases has been deeply involved in the study of one of the most important diseases of the modern era – atherosclerosis and thrombosis, which is the main reason of morbidity and mortality in Slovene population. Achievements of this research group range in the top of the international findings on the reasons for and on the development of atherothrombotic diseases. Moreover, these studies importantly contribute to the search for the most effective ways of treatment and prevention of atherothrombotic diseases.
Significance for the country
Besides the contribution of the internationally recognized knowledge that our research group will provide to the treasury of Slovene science about atherosclerosis, the contribution to higher quality of treatment of atherothrombotic patients is also of major importance, since the majority of the research results is transferred to the everyday clinical praxis. Furthermore, many young researchers and Ph.D. students are working in the range of this research group as the education of young cadres is of the greatest significance for us.
